Two day eco-tourism conference concludes

SRINAGAR, Apr 28: The two day eco-tourism conference organized by Eco-tourism Society of India (ESOI) in collaboration with Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh succeeded in bringing various stakeholders in order to frame eco-tourism policy in India.
Peerzada Faiyaz Ahmad, State representative, Eco-tourism Society of India ,said that the conference was held with support from Ministry of Tourism, Government of India that the aim of which was to come up with meaningful conceptualization of eco-tourism that meets policy requirements, reflects existing ground realities and strikes a balance between conservation, tourism and local livelihoods.
He said for this the conference facilitated deliberations among international experts, policy-makers, academics, NGOs and representatives of communities currently engaged in tourism.
Eminent speakers including Enrico Ducrot (Italy), Richard Vigne (Kenya), Les Carlisle (South Africa), Hashim Tyabji and Dr. Rohini Chaturvedi (UK), Guy Chester and Lynn Woodworth (Australia), Swathi Seshadri, Sanjay Upadhayay, Dr. Erach Bharucha and Subhash (India) delivered lectures during the two day conference.
The experts said that tourism must be sustainable and contribute not only to poverty reduction but also to bio-diversity conservation.
