Two-day medical camp for Thalassaemic children concludes

JAMMU, Dec 31: Organized by J&K Thalassaemia Welfare Society (JKTWS) and Pediatrics Department of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, a two-day medical camp for the Thalassaemic children concluded at Day Care Centre in SMGS Hospital, Jammu.
During the camp, two and internationally renowned senior doctors in the field of Thalassaemia namely Dr VP Choudhary (former Prof and Head Hematology, AIIMS Delhi) now senior Consultant Hematology at Batra Hospital and Research Centre New Delhi and Dr JS Arora (general secretary, National Thalassaemia Welfare Society) examined the thalassaemic children. Many problems of the patients were taken care of instantly.
A photograph of former HoD Pediatrics and founder of Thalassemia Day Care Centre Dr Ashok Gupta was installed in Thalassaemia ward of SMGS Hospital. In the evening, an interactive session was held between the patients, doctors and society members at Amar Singh Club Jammu.
President JKTWS, Sudhir Sethi highlighted the role of society for the welfare of the Thalassaemia patients. Medical advisors to the society Dr KK Kaul and Dr Sanjeev K Digra briefed the gathering about the various aspects of this disease and services being rendered by the Thalassaemia Day Care Centre, SMGS Hospital Jammu.
The dignitaries present were Dr DB Sharma, Dr Kumkum Sharma, Dr Ashok Gupta, Dr TR Raina, Dr GS Saini, Dr Meena Sidhu, Dr Vijay Sawhney, Dr Ashu Jamwal, Col Dr Arun Sharma of Military Hospital Jammu and Executive Director AIIMS Jammu Dr Shakti Gupta. JKTWS members namely Shammi Kapoor, Rajinder Pathak, Puneet Gandotra, Sunandan Anand and Narinder Mahajan were also present.
Meanwhile, another function for children suffering from thalassaemia and cancer was organized by Department of Pediatrics in collaboration with JKTWS. Around 50 such kids undergoing treatment in department of pediatrics attended the program with their parents. Chief guest of the function was Dr Sunil Sachdeva (HoD Physiology, GMC Jammu). On the occasion, a magic show was organized for these children and gifts were distributed amongst them.
