JAMMU, Oct 13: A two-day long national conference on “Co-building an Inclusive New Social Order: Reflections from COVID-19”, concluded today at the Central University of Jammu.
Chief guest of the event was Administrative Secretary, Department of Rural Development, and Panchayati Raj J&K, Sheetal Nanda. She highlighted some of the pressing issues faced by the children and women of the rural areas of the country during the pandemic period and said that the Government needs to pay attention to the sufferings of the people living in the borderline areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
The conference was organized by the Department of Social Work of the university in collaboration with Save The Children, an NGO. On this valedictory function, the organizer and the Head of the Department of Social Work Dr Nancy Mengi, talked about the challenges posed by the COVID -19 pandemic and how this crisis turned out to be a nightmare for the vulnerable groups of society including children, women, elderly people, minorities and transgenders. She also shed some light on that how we can tackle situations like these in the future and what role we can play in spreading awareness regarding the same.
Registrar and Associate Professor Dr Yashwant Singh also expressed his concern on the serious risks faced by some vulnerable sections of society as a result of the pandemic. He underlined the fact that how this crisis disturbed the social, economic and psychological set-up of the entire world and concluded his address by suggesting solutions to deal with such issues.
Towards the end of the event, Research Scholars who had come from various institutions across India including Tata Research Centre of Social Work, Jamia Milia Islamia University, Delhi University, JNU, Chandigarh University, and several other organizations, were presented with certificates and prizes for their research papers which they presented during various sessions of the conference.
Dr Yashwant Singh, (Registrar), Prof Rasal Singh, (DSW, Central University of Jammu), Dr Vinay Kumar, Dr Archana, Dr Shweta along with other faculty members and chiefs of Sunrise Education Foundation, Muskaan Foundation and Red Cross Society also attended the conference.
