Two-day national seminar on J&K émigré Punjabi writer’s works concludes

JAMMU, Mar 14: Reiterating the fact ‘Parvasi Punjabi Sahit’ is not only part and parcel of greater Punjabi world of writings but litterateurs settled abroad have contributed immensely to the richness of Punjabi literature, a two day national seminar on the creative process of Surinder Seerat, a J&K émigré Punjabi writer presently settled in USA, concluded at the K L Saigal hall, here today.
Organized jointly by Punjabi Lekhak Sabha in collaboration with Punjabi Adbi Sangat-the two literary NGOs dedicated to the cause of Punjabi writing in the state, the highlight of the seminar was participation of academic luminaries, writers of Punjabi language and folklore and delegates of from various Universities of Punjab and local community of Punajbi writers.
The inaugural session of the seminar had started with welcome address by Devindra Singh Vishvanagrik, while Dr Darya from School of Punajbi Studies, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, read the keynote address. Dr S S Khara, former chairman, school of Punjabi Studies, GNDU, who presided over the session also spoke on the occasion. Dr Jagbir Singh, former HoD & Dean, Punjabi Department, Delhi University, and the chief guest, spoke about the salient features of Surinder Seerat’s poetry.
In the academic session research papers on the creative oeuvre of Surinder Seerat were read by Dr Gurpreet Singh Sindhu, Sahib Singh, Dr Santsevak Singh and Dr Harinder Singh.
The occasion was also marked with release of three books in Punjabi and a magazine, that reflect upon new thrusts areas in academic research in Punjabi folk lore. The released books were Dr Darya’s ‘Punjab De Kabiley’, Gurpreet Singh’s ‘Sakhi Sarvar, Sahib Singh’s ‘Draivaraan Di Lok Dhara’ and quarterly folklore magazine ‘Amaltas’, edited by Dr Susheel Sharma. On the first day the scintillating recital of Surinder Seerat’s poetry by well known local singer Sham Sajan and party, was well appreciated by the audience.
The highlight of last day of the seminar which ended witha validictory function was a candid interaction with Surinder Seerat who shared the details of creative process and overall concerns that define his prose and poetry.
