Two-day National Seminar on ‘Labour Law Amendments’ commences at KU

SRINAGAR, Aug 25: Two-day National Seminar on “Recent Labour Law Amendments and Judicial Pronouncements, Social Security for Un-organized and Contract Workers and compliance of Labour Laws: emerging issues” commenced today at Kashmir University.
Inaugurating the seminar Chief Justice, J&K High Court Justice MM Kumar, said that the responsibility of working for the welfare of the working class and upholding their constitutional rights lies on the shoulders of the young law students and upcoming legal luminaries who can make a huge difference by bringing awareness in the society about the working conditions and miserable plight of the labour class.
In his presidential address Dr Pravin Sinha, Executive President, National Labour Law Association said that the amendments should be brought in balanced way so as avoid confrontation between labourers and Industrialists.
In his address Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Talat Ahmad said that it is an important opportunity for the students to interact with the peer group and discuss various issues related to the Labour class.
Among others who spoke were Prof Abdul Wahid Qureshi, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Kashmir, Prof SC Srivastava, secretary general, National Labour Law Association, New Delhi, Prof GQ Mir, Dean, Faculty of Law University of Kashmir and seminar coordinator, Prof Mehraj-ud-din Mir, Dean, School of Legal studies Central University of Kashmir, Dr Farooq Ahmad Mir, Head, Department of Law, University of Kashmir and Justice BA Kirmani.
The seminar was organised by faculty of Law, University of Kashmir and School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir in collaboration with National Labour Law Association, New Delhi and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.
