Two-day Red Cross Mela begins

KATHUA, Nov 03: The first ever two-day Red Cross Mela, organised by the District Red Cross Society, being today at Sports Stadium with enthusiastic participation of the local people and representatives of various social, religious and Non Government Organisations(NGOs) .
Inspector General of Police Jammu, Dilbagh Singh formally inaugurated the Mela.
The Red Cross Mela has been organised with an aim to raise funds to help the Red Cross Society to take forward its mission of helping the suffering humanity. The representatives of different Government Departments, educational institutions, students, industries, participated in the Mela with great enthusiasm.
Deputy Commissioner, Kathua and also Chairperson of District Red Cross Society, Zahida Parveen Khan welcomed the guests.
IGP Dilbagh Singh, after inaugurating the Mela, went around the venue and keenly observed the stalls put up by traders, NGOs, Government Departments and others. He appealed to the students to participate in social service oriented programmes. He also urged the people to come forward to donate generously for the District Red Cross Society to enable it to serve suffering humanity at the time of distress.
A spree of culture items were presented by the students of various institutions depicting multi regional culture, featuring folk dances and patriotic songs.
A Tug of war between DC- XI and SSP- XI was also held in which SSP XI remained victorious.
Among others ADDC, Kathua ACR Kathua, SSP Kathua Addl SP, Kathua, PTS Principal Kathua, SDM Billawar Kathua, Tehsildar Kathua, and others district officers were also present.
