Two-day strike begins on JCC call, employees hold protests

JAMMU, June 21: On the call given by Joint Consultative Committee, Government employees in Jammu and Kashmir today began their two-day strike amid protest demonstrations seeking fulfillment of their demands.
Besides all the district headquarters, the protesting employees held a strong protest demonstration in front of Divisional Commissioner’s office here and raised slogans against the Government for its failure to meet their pending demands.
Highlighting their demands, the JCC leaders threatened to intensify the protest if the Government does not implement the agreement inked with the employees on September 15, 2011.
The JCC is demanding enhancement in the retirement age from 58 to 60 years, regularization of daily wagers, adhoc and contractual appointees working in different Government Departments and removal of pay anomaly.
The JCC leaders announced that the employees in Jammu will observe complete strike in their offices tomorrow while their counterparts in Kashmir division will assemble at Sher-i-Kashmir Park in Srinagar for taking out a protest rally towards the Raj Bhawan.
Those who addressed the protesting employees outside the office of Divisional Commissioner in Jammu, included Mohd Gafoor Dar, S Kulwant Singh, Ganesh Khajuria, Amrik Singh, Comrade Hari Singh, Rajinder Kumar, Molvi Muneer Ahmed, Darshan Singh, Molvi Nazir Ahmed, Ravinder Singh, Ramesh Singh, Tanveer Hussain, Darshan Sharma, Deepak Gupta, Vikram Jeet Singh, Vijay Choudhary,   Rohit George, Raju Kumar, Jagjeet Sharma, Rajesh Khajuria and Shahid Hussain.
Reports from Kashmir said that normal work in Government offices was affected in view of the employees strike, who took out protest rallies.  In Srinagar, employees assembled near Press Enclave and marched towards the Deputy Commissioner’s office. However they were intercepted by Police, which did not allow them to proceed further and arrested at least a dozen of the employees including Muntazir Mohiuddin, Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam, Nusrat Beigh and Farooq Ahmad Trali.
Meanwhile, reports from various district headquarters across Jammu and Kashmir said that similar demonstrations were held at Kathua, Udhampur, Samba, Rajouri Poonch, Reasi, Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, Kupwara, Bandipora etc.
In Doda, the protest demonstration was held under the leadership of Hafizullah Khurwani, Farooq Ahmed Sheikh, Arshad Hussain Malik, Barkat Ali, Jamait Ali Agah and Kewal Krishan.
