Two die of COVID, 123 test +ve in J&K

18 new cases in Ladakh

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/LEH, Dec 31: Two persons died of COVID-19 and 123 others tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir today while 18 fresh cases were reported from the Union Territory of Ladakh.
One death and 58 cases were reported in Jammu division.
There has been surge in COVID cases in Jammu region especially Jammu district where 29 out of 58 cases were registered and all of them were locals.
Twelve cases were recorded in Doda, seven in Reasi, six Rajouri and one each in Kathua, Samba, Kishtwar and Poonch districts.
All seven positives in Reasi were pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji shrine who were found infected on their arrival at Katra Railway Station.
A 71-year-old fully vaccinated man hailing from Chuchot in Leh district of Ladakh, presently putting up at Sarwal in Jammu district, died of COVID-19 at home. He was, however, co-morbid.
This has taken Corona toll in Jammu region to 2199 and Jammu district to 1157.
As against 58 cases, 17 recovered from the virus leaving number of active positive cases in Jammu region to 422.
Among 18 cases in the Union Territory of Ladakh, 15 were reported from Leh district and three in Kargil.
Ladakh now has 204 active positive cases including 152 in Leh and 52 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today reported 65 fresh cases of COVID-19.
One person died in Kashmir due to infection taking the death toll in J&K to 4,528.
Those who tested positive include 35 from Srinagar, 12 from Baramulla, 5 from Budgam, 5 from Pulwama, 4 from Kupwara and 4 from Ganderbal.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 215,050 including 211,806 recoveries and 2,329 deaths.
The total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,337 including 915 from Kashmir division.
With 78 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 335,425 which is 98.28 percent of the total cases.
