Two die, several injured in clashes

Srinagar, May 16: At least two persons were killed and several others injured when a police vehicle overrun two persons during a clash between the workers of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and People’s Conference in Kupwara this evening soon after victory of PDP candidate from Baramulla constituency, Muzaffar Hussain Baigh.
The two dead persons were identified Abdul Rashid Bajad, son of Noor-din-Bajad, and Jamal Ganie son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganie died, when a police vehicle over ran them amid clashes between supporters of PDP and PC in remote Warsun village of Kupwara district.
Reports said that supporters of PDP were celebrating the victory of their candidate when supporters of People’s Conference attacked them. A police party from Kralpora police station rushed to the spot to prevent clashes from spreading and evacuate at least a dozen people to the hospital.
Around 9.30 pm, driver of police vehicle lost control over vehicle amid clashes and over ran two persons. The injured were shifted to hospital and dead persons as well for post mortem.
A police official said that vehicle of the SHO overrun at least 7 persons during the clashes and two of them died on spot.
