Two drown as car plunges into canal

JAMMU, May 27: Two people drowned while one escaped unhurt when a car they were travelling-in fell into a canal near Satwari area in city outskirts, late last night.
“An Alto car bearing registration number JMUAX-1239 on way from Giddargaliyan to Maralian during late last night accidentally plunged into the canal near BSF Camp, Tharap,” Incharge, police post, Gadigarh, SI Jaswinder Singh said.
The officer said that three people were travelling in the vehicle. “Two of them drowned while one had a close shave and he escaped,” he added.
The deceased have been identified as Parminder Singh 35 son of Gurbachan Singh, resident of Amritsar and Charanjeet Singh 32 son of Kuldeep Singh, resident of Jawala Colony, Chattha while the man, who escaped unhurt, has been identified as Kulrajan of Digiana.
He said that after conducting post mortem the body of the Parminder was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites while the post mortem on the body of Charanjeet will be conducted tomorrow.
“A case in this connection was registered at police station Satwari and further investigations were underway.
