JAMMU, Dec 2: Police in Jammu district today claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers from Miran Sahib and Bakshi Nagar areas with 11 grams of heroin.
A police official said that one Mohammad Shafi from Indira Nagar was arrested by a team of Miran Sahib Police Station from near Bagh-e-Bhour Park, Indira Nagar, with 3 grams of heroin-like-substance.
He said the accused has been booked in case FIR number 118/2024 under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Miran Sahib and further investigation taken up.
In a separate operation, the police official said that a team from Bakshi Nagar Police Station intercepted a Maruti Ciaz car with Delhi number registration at a checkpoint.
According to him, the driver of the vehicle, Karamjeet Singh, attempted to flee on foot, leaving behind his car on seeing the police.
Upon searching, 8 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession, said the police official.
He said Karamjeet has been booked in case FIR number 160/2024 under the relevant sections of the law registered at Police Station Bakshi Nagar and further investigation taken up.
The police official revealed that Karamjeet had been selling drugs to the local youth for years, contributing to overdose deaths in the area.
His arrest is part of a broader effort following the launch of the zero-tolerance policy by the SDPO City West, Dr Satish Bhardwaj, and other senior officers, added the police official.
