Two Govt officers held for thrashing Sarpanch

Srinagar, Apr 1: Police today arrested two senior officials after a Sarpanch of Mori Kalaroos village in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was thrashed in the office of Chief Education Officer (CEO).
Reports said the Sarpanch who went to the CEO office for some pending bill issues was beaten by the senior officials of the Education Department. “Sarpanch suffered major injuries and was shifted to Srinagar hospitals for treatment,” locals said. He has been identified as Abdul Lateef Tass.
The accused officials include AEE, Balbeer Singh of Baramulla, two JEs, Jaffar Ahmad and Javaid Ahmad of Panzgam Kupwara and Karnah respectively. The Sarpanch was seeking redressal of pending bill issues.
Meanwhile, Sarpanchs of various villages including locals staged protest outside the Deputy Commissioner office Kupwara and demanded stern action against the officials.
Police, meanwhile, said a case wide no 49/2016 has been registered against the officials while two among the accused officials have been arrested. “We have sent a team of police officials to arrest the third involved persons namely Javaid Ahmad and he will be also arrested soon,” said a top police officer.
