Leh, Dec, 21: Wildlife Department arrested two locals for poaching a blue sheep in Nubra. The incident reportedly occurred between Khardong and Khalsar village in Nubra.
Post-mortem of the carcass was done at District veterinary Hospital Leh and .2 bullet was reportedly found in the ribs and Wildlife Department has submitted the detail report to Munsif Court Nubra.
One of the accused has been identified as Ghulam Hassan of Bogdang village.
Responding to media query Executive Councillor for Wildlife Stanzin Konchok said that the alleged poaching reportedly took place on Wednesday afternoon between Khardong and Khalsar villages.
“The blue sheep was found injured and it died on the way while it was being brought to Leh for treatment. It died due to massive injuries, ribs were broken, lungs were filled with blood,” Stanzin informed, adding that teams from Wildlife Department immediately rushed to the spot on the receipt of the information of a blue sheep being injured. He added that veterinary doctors had been kept ready for surgery if required.
After the post-mortem it was confirmed that it died of a bullet.
Stanzin claimed that the case was investigated for the last two days and today a report was submitted confirming that it was due to hunting.
Munsiff Nubra has issued arrest warrant. Accused will be arrested soon and it will be non-bailable one, he added.
