NEW DELHI, Nov 4:
Two passengers have been arrested at the airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold bars worth Rs 73 lakh.
The duo had boarded separate flights from Riyadh and Singapore via Hong Kong. They were intercepted by customs officials upon their arrival here on Thursday.
Altogether 25 gold bars weighing 2.6 kgs have been recovered from them which were concealed in clothes worn by them, a Custom Department official said.
The value of seized gold bars is assessed to be Rs 73.30 lakh, he said.
The duo have been arrested and gold bars have been seized, the official said.
Customs officials are keeping extra vigil at airports to check smuggling of the yellow metal. (PTI)
