Two HM militants arrested; arms, ammunition recovered

Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Sept 1: Security forces today arrested two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen from Pattan area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district and recovered arms and ammunition from them. Police and Army in a joint operation arrested two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen from Pattan area of Baramulla district and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from them. The arms and ammunition recovered include two AK- 47 rifles, two grenade launchers and other war like stores including Army and police uniforms. The arrested militants have been identified as Parvez Ahmed Mir son of Ali Mohammad and Showkat Ahmed Ganaie son of Mohammad Ramzan, both residents of Andargam Pattan. SSP Baramulla, Imtiaz Hussain, while giving details of the operation said: "A joint operation was launched by Police and Army in Pattan area during which we arrested two members of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist outfit. We recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from them." The SSP said that arrest of the two militants is a big success as they were threatening the people of the area to join protests. "Militants are threatening people to come out and joint protests and in this scenario this is a big achievement for police and security forces which will go a long way in ensuring peace in the area. With these recoveries, the outfit has suffered huge damage and we will try to get the other members of the outfit as soon as possible. I think it is a big success at a time when terrorists are trying to create a problem which is situational in nature." A Defence spokesman said," based on a specific information about the movement of suspected terrorists near Wusunkhui, Pattan, a joint team of Army and Police launched the operation in which two terrorists were intercepted early in the morning today. Amidst the clamour for restraint from the Security Forces while dealing with the locals, this incident emerges as a testimony to the restraint being regularly exercised by the SF who even at grave risk, apprehended these heavily armed terrorists, identified as Shaukat Ahmed Ganai, 26, and Parvez Ahmad Mir, 34, both from Andargam.
