JAMMU, Dec 17: Gangyal police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ nabbed two inter-state narcotic smugglers along with 18 kilograms of bhukki.
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a team from Gangyal police station laid a naka at Fawara Chowk and asked two pedestrians carrying leather bags to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the pedestrians tried to escape from the spot, but the cops chased and nabbed them after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 18 kilograms of poppy straw from the leather bags and arrested both the inter-state narcotic smugglers.
The accused have been identified as Nachatar Singh, son of Bhajan chand and Dev Raj, son of Deewan Chand, both residents of Punjab.
During questioning, the accused disclosed that they had brought the consignment from Kashmir and were heading to their native place for selling it among the people.
A case under FIR Number 141/16 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at police station Gangyal and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal Inspector Aejaz Wani and assisted by Incharge Greater Kailash police post SI Tariq Ahmed made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Sachin Gupta and SP South Shaazad Salaria.
