Srinagar, Sept 28: Two Kashmiri Haj pilgrims, including a lady, have died in Holy city of Meeca, families and reports said.
Seventy-year old Mukhta Banu (cover number JKR-254-5-0), wife of Peerzada Mohammad Ayub of Tral town, was missing after the deadly stampede occurred at Mina during Haj, her family said.
They said her husband, who was accompanying her on the pilgrimage, was running from pillar to post in her search and finally after four days he came to know about her death.
The family claimed that her death occurred during the stampede in Mina but aren’t sure what led to her death. “We don’t know whether suffocation or stroke caused her death,” they said.
The family of the deceased have expressed anguish and surprise over alleged misbehavior of Haj officials and said they are not providing any information to them.
Abdul Wahid Malik of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is also reported dead in Mecca but the cause is unclear. Reports said his family was informed about his death over a phone call. The reports further said that his body is still missing.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Haj officials are tight-lipped over the deaths and they are not coming clear over the issue. Despite repeated attempts, the Haj Officer could not be contacted because his mobile phone was switched off.
