JAMMU, Nov 17: Two persons were killed and four others injured when a car they were travelling in, plunged into a gorge in Akhnoor area of city outskirts.
The mishap occurred this evening, a police officer said. He said that an Alto car (bearing registration number JK02AE-6774) which was on its way from Mendhar to Jammu, when reached near Tungi Morh in Akhnoor area skidded off the road and plunged into a 14-15 deep feet gorge.
“The accident happened probably due to drowsiness of the car driver Mukhtar Ahmed (40) son of Mohd Hussain of Banola (Mendhar) due to which he could not control the car on the sharp curve and it rolled down into the road-side gorge,” the officer said.
He said that on getting information from the locals, a police team from police station Akhnoor rushed to the spot and launched rescued operation along with Army personnel. “While two women died on the spot, four passengers sustained moderate injuries,” the officer said.
“The bodies of the deceased women namely Sarwar Bi wife of Mohd Hussain of Banola (Mendar) and Zumart Bi wife of Mohd Naseer of Kas Blari (Mendhar) were shifted to Sub District Hospital, Akhnoor for postmortem,” he said.
The officer said that the injured persons namely Mukhtar Ahmed (driver), Parveen Akther wife of Mohd Azad of Banola, Ansh Mukhtar son of Mukhtar Ahmed and Alesha Naseer daughter of Mohd Naseer of Kas Blari were also taken to SDH Akhnoor but after providing first aid they were referred to GMC Jammu for advance medical treatment.
“In this connection, a case FIR Number 211/20 under Sections 279/337/304A IPC was registered in police station Akhnoor and further investigation started,” he added.
