UDHAMPUR, Aug 9: In a freak accident, two persons were killed and another one got critically injured when a car collided with a truck inside Chenani-Nashri tunnel, here this afternoon.
The accident took place inside the tunnel, 300 meters towards Chenani side, resulting into on the spot death of two persons and injuries to third one sitting in the Wagon-R car.
The car, bearing registration number JK09-5295, was on way from Nashri to Chenani while the Truck (HR38AA-3671) was going towards Nashri from Chenani side when the collision took place around 1.30 pm.
SHO Chanani Charanjeet Singh along with police team rushed to the spot and took the injured persons to Sub District Hospital Chenani where doctors declared two of them as brought dead.
The deceased were identified as Gulam Mohd Ganai, son of Abdul Ahad Ganai, resident of Handwara, Kupwara and Gulzar Lone, son of Mohd Lone of village Watred, tehsil Khansahib, district Budgam.
The injured, namely Showket Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat of Yangora, PS Kheer Bawani Ganderbal, was referred to District Hospital Udhampur for advanced treatment.
Police has arrested driver of the truck even as the CCTV footage makes it clear that the accident took place because of the car driver’s negligence. A case in this connection has been registered at Police Station, Chenani.
