SRINAGAR, Aug 20: Two militants were killed in a fierce encounter in North Kashmir’s Furqian Gali near the Line of Control (LoC) this evening while a massive operation against remaining militants is going on.
A Defence spokesman said here that two militants were killed in Furqian Gali in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today and two AK-47 rifles were recovered from them.
Sources, however, said that a group of 7-8 militants had infiltrated from Rauta Ki Gali on August 18 and operation was launched by 7- Garwal of Army posted near the LoC against them.
Sources said that massive combing operation continues in the area and today morning at around 9 a.m. an Army patrol established contact with these militants.
The militants were challenged leading to a fierce gun battle in which two militants were killed in Khinsi Nar area this evening.
The operation against the rest of the members of the group is going on and massive hunt has been launched against them.
Army yesterday killed one militant in Barwan village of Tangdhar in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district near the LoC.
The killed militant was part of the group of 7-8 militants that infiltrated early this month through Tangdhar sector. Three militants of the group were killed in a fierce encounter at Gagadoro forest area on August 8. Army had recovered 3 AK-47 rifles, 3 pouches, 3 UBGLs, 3 wireless sets from the dead militants.
Army operation in Tangdhar continues against the other three members of the group.
Army says that around 400 militants are waiting on the launch pads near the LoC and they are waiting for infiltration. They say that the counter-infiltration measures of the Army along the LoC are a major deterrent against infiltration. They said that the successful operations against the militants in the hinterland has put pressure on militant leadership across to fill the void in the Valley.
