Srinagar : Two militants were killed by security forces in two separate encounters in the Kashmir valley in the wee hours today, official sources said here. Acting on a specific information, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police conducted a search operation in a village at Shopian in south valley. However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants opened fire with automatic weapons. Security forces retaliated and in the fierce encounter, a militant was killed. They said in another similar operation, a militant was killed in the frontier district of Kupwara. The operation was continuing when the reports last came in. Details are awaited. (Agencies)
