Two people taken into custody ahead of Zubin’s concert: Shinde

NEW DELHI :  Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde  today confirmed that two people were taken into custody ahead of the concert of Indian-born world renowned conductor Zubin Mehta in the Kashmir Valley this evening.
“Yes, it is true that two people were taken into custody ahead of Zubin Mehta concert as they wanted to attack the venue. They were found to be in possession of a grenade and some weapon,” Mr Shinde told a monthly news conference of his ministry.
Yesterday, Mehta said ‘Kashmir chose me’ as he braced up to conduct a 90-minute concert in the 17th century Shalimar Mughal Garden on the banks of the Dal Lake.
Meanwhile, the authorities in Srinagar were working at breakneck speed to make the Bavarian State Orchestra’s concert a grand success.
The orchestra is one of the oldest in Germany and its origins can be traced to 1523.
Mehta’s ‘Ehsaas-e-Kashmir’ (The feel of Kashmir) concert has been facing opposition from separatist politicians.
Security measures have already been beefed up in the Kashmir Valley for the musical performance that would be telecast live in 104 countries.
Diplomats, corporate magnates, film stars, law makers, civil servants and politicians are on the list of 1,500 invitees to the concert.
