Directed by O P Shakir, the play ‘Gatt’, in its Dogri avatar, despite many green horn young actors, came out as entertaining production. Highlighting the ills of the system where government officials, police and politicians, instead of genuinely working for lifting the lot of poor and the downtrodden are only focused upon safeguarding their personal interests, the script of the play was marked by dialogues full of colloquial expressions and spoken by young actors struck a chord with the audience who enjoyed and appreciated the performance by the group from Akhnoor.
The actors in the play included Sparasha Verma, Kunal, Sugam, Anmole, Rishav, Ayush, Kanav and O P Deepak.
The second performance was Hindi play ‘Beti’ by Jammu’s Nav Durga Kala Manch. Written and directed by Shashi Bhushan, the play again dealt with the theme of female infanticide. Due to mindless female infanticide, a stage comes in the society when due to very less number of girls in the society the tables turn on the boys of marriageable age. Now they are being evaluated by girls’ mothers for their skills in cooking washing and other hold chores. The actors who enacted in the play were Dilshad Sazi, Ashish Bhat, Sandeep Sahrma, Nikhil Sharma, Anoop Goswami, Rashi Raina, Anvi Jain and Sanjay Sonkar.
