Jammu, Nov 28: History has never witnessed the kind of public mobilization which was possible through the ultimate magic of theatre. The occasion was the presentation of Natrang’s Internationally acclaimed Dogri play at Jhiri Mela-2012 where the supreme sacrifice of the folk hero of the farmers ‘Bawa Jitto’ enlivened by the Balwant Thakur’s superb direction and the mind-blowing acting of Natrang’s seasoned actors.
This is the major attraction of Jhiri Mela which attracts lakhs of the audience and people wait for a year for this mega theatrical event to happen. Natrang director Balwant Thakur took the initiative about seven years back and with the help of district administration and Jhiri Mela Committee and started performing this world class theatrical wonder based on the life and sacrifice of Bawa Jitto at the Jhiri Mela.
Speaking on the occasion, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that with few more coordinated and sustained professional efforts, this theatrical venture has the potential to become a global happening.
Neeraj Kant a very senior actor of Natrang ably enacted the role of Bawa Jitto. Young Juhi Singh in the role of Bua Gauri made audience cry at times with her powerful acting. Rajni Bhati as Chachi Jojan surprised everyone through her powerful acting. Anil Tickoo as Malli established the fact that versatility comes with experience and the same could be felt throughout his presence on stage, Vijay Bhatt a senior actor of Natrang performed as Sarpanch with full professional ease. Madan Rangeela a renowned stage and TV/Film actor established his supremacy and vibrated the stage with his powerful acting as Mehta Beer Singh. Sanjeev Gupta as Isso won all over appreciation of the audience. Rahul Singh as Rullo and Sajra Qadir as Jeauni gave remarkable performances.
There was a team of about fifty actors and technicians who created the magic spell and visible efforts of, Dimple Sharma, Pawan Verma, Rohit Verma, Mohd. Yaseen, Ankush Lakhnotra, Baljeet Singh,Tajasvi Sharma, Aarti Rajput, Shakshi Prakash, Shivam Manhas, Sachin Sawhney, Uplaksh Singh Kotwal, and Vinay Manhas were praiseworthy.
The traditional narrative singers Girdhari Lal and Harbans Lal who are working with Natrang since 1986 are the real hero of the play, the lights were designed and executed by Suraj Ganjoo. Shummy did the Sound. The show was assisted by Neeraj Kant.
