Two smugglers held, 16 bovines rescued

RAMBAN, Apr 6: Police here today under the supervision of SSP Ramban, Anuj Kumar foiled a bovine smuggling bid and arrested two smugglers, rescued 16 bovines and seized two vehicles involved in the crime.
Cops from Police Station Ramban headed by SHO Ramban while performing vehicle checking duty at National Highway near Shan Palace intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK19A-5498.
During checking of the vehicle, seven bovines were found laden inside the vehicle in cruel manner and were being transported illegally.
One Shabir Ahmed, son of Nazir Ahmed, resident of Bhatti, Govindpura Tehsil and District Ramban was arrested from the vehicle.
Meanwhile, cops from Police Station Ramsoo headed by SHO Ramsoo foiled another bovine smuggling bid after intercepting a vehicle bearing registration no. JK02AW-3519 during the checking of which nine bovines were found laden inside in cruel manner and were being transported illegally.
In this regard one Shakeel Ahmed, son of Farooq Ahmed, resident of Kokarnag, District Anantnag was arrested from the vehicle.
In these cases FIR No. 73/2024 was registered at Police Station Ramban and FIR No. 44/2024 at Police Station Ramsoo under Sections 188 IPC and under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Investigation has been initiated into these cases and both the vehicles involved in the crime were seized.
