Two smugglers held, 47 bovines rescued

RAMBAN, Apr 11: Police here today under the supervision of SSP Ramban, Anuj Kumar rescued 47 bovines and seized four vehicles involved in the crime.
Cops from Police Station Batote while on vehicle checking duty at NHW Naka Nashri intercepted a vehicle bearing registration JK19-7806 and the driver managed to escape from the spot.
During checking of the vehicle 10 bovines were found laden inside in cruel manner and were being transported illegally.
Meanwhile, cops from Police Station Chanderkote intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK19A-1487 and the driver managed to escape.
During checking of the vehicle cops found 10 bovines laden inside the vehicle in cruel manner and were being transported illegally.
Apart from this cops from Police Station Ramban intercepted two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK02R-5829 and JK02D-6609 and during checking of these vehicles cops found 27 bovines laden inside in a cruel manner and were being transported illegally.
Two drivers identified as Mohd Saleem, son of Nazir Ahmed, resident of Bhatia Maitra in Ramban and Manzoor Ahmed, son of Abdul Subhan, resident of Bankote in Banihal were arrested on the spot.
Subsequently, FIR No. 47/2024 was registered at Police Station Batote, FIR No. 49 of 2024 at Police Station Chanderkote and FIR No 76 & 77 at Police Station Ramban under Sections 188 IPC and under the Prevention of cruelty to Animals Act and investigation started.
