JAMMU, May 4: Two students of School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi drowned in river Tawi while six others were rescued.
As per police sources, eight students of School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi after paying obeisance at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine at Katra were taking bath in the river Tawi at Hari-ki-Pauri, Bagh-e-Bahu this afternoon when all started drowning.
After the incident, a rescue team comprising of river police and disaster management officials arrived at the scene and rescued six students, while two drowned.
The body of Amit Tiwari, a resident of Varanasi was retrieved, while efforts were being made to trace the body of another student namely Rakesh, a resident of Rajasthan.
The six students who were rescued have been identified as Anish, a resident of Delhi, Yoginder, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, Abhishek, a resident of Varanasi, Faizan, a resident of Agra Uttar Pradesh, Ashank, a resident of Dubai and Paras Meshwari, a resident of Rajasthan.
The search operation was called off late in the evening and Army’s help has been sought to trace the body of the second youth.
