JAMMU : Two women were killed and 20 people injured in cross border firing today across Jammu region. “A woman and her daughter-in-law were killed this morning when a shell from across the border hit their house in forward village Chilayari in Samba district,” an official said here. The family, after spending night in safer place identified by the administration, had returned to their house and were having a cup of tea when the mortar shell hit them, he added. “A woman identified as Shankuntla Devi died on the spot while six other members were injured. They were shifted to the district hospital where another woman, Polli Devi, died,” an official said.
The injured were later referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu.
Meanwhile, seven people were injured near Jeora farm in Ranbir Singh Pura Sector when they were on way to their house. They were hit by a mortar shell fired from across the international border. The injured persons were shifted to the GMC Jammu. Around 10 people wounded in cross border firing in Pargwal, Kanhachak Sectors were also admitted to the hospital. Nine civilians were injured in cross border firing along the international border yesterday as Pakistan Rangers fired at forward Border Outposts of BSF and civilian areas in Jammu. Five people were killed and 30 wounded in border firing in Arnia Sub-Sector on October 6.
