UDHAMPUR, Sept 30: To celebrate the historic decision of Union Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change passing written order of sanctioning work on river Devika at Udhampur under National River Conservation Plan(NRCP), members of Udhampur Development Council (UDC) today performing Puja in a traditional way on the bank of sacred river Devika along with devotees and citizens of Udhampur.
Briefing media persons about the Devika Project, Anil Paba, president UDC, showed gratitude to Dr Jitendra Singh, MP Kathua- Udhampur-Doda constituency and MoS in PMO for getting the Devika river project sanctioned and work order issued.
Paba said that Devika river along with other rivers like Saryu, Kuhu, Gomati, Gandaki and Lohia etc was existing during Ramaayan period without any shadow of doubt.
He appealed to the Centre and district administration to clarify stand on the issue of illegal encroachment and demarcation of land of holy river Devika before commencement of work as the illegal encouragement was still going on thus hurting the sentiments of Udhampur people.
Mr Paba said that blue print of the Devika Project should be made public. He also appealed the Central Government to invite global tendering to implement the NRCP project.
