JAMMU, Aug 14: Udhampur Development Council has appealed the concerned authorities to initiate process for implementation of Rs 60 crore project, announced by Government of India, for conservation of River Devika and its tributory Doodh Ganga in Udhampur.
Addressing a press conference, here today, president of the UDC, Anil Paba urged the district administration to get the demarcation of Devika river completed and submit Detailed Project Report so that work on the project is started as early as possible.
“Besides, some private agency should be hired for the project work on the lines of Sabarmati river project in Gujarat and to ensure that the sanctioned money does not go to drains as it happened earlier,” he said and added lot of funds had already been exhausted for conservation of river but all in vain thus forcing their organization to knock the door of High Court for justice to the dying sacrosanct river Devika and its tributaries of Doodh Ganga.
Mr Paba claimed that it was only because of continuous efforts of Udhampur Development Council that the mega project was approved for conservation of sacred Devika river, which was being encroached upon and polluted.
The UDC members, including Vikas Padha, Parvash Parihar, Rakesh Padha and Bharat Paba also applauded the efforts of Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State in PMO and Member of Parliament from Udhampur-Doda constituency, for mooting the proposal to uptake River Devika under “National River Conservation Plan” and bring it to the logical end.
The UDC appealed to people of Udhampur to make all out efforts to keep Devika neat and clean and restore its pristine glory.
