JAMMU, Jan 21: Bar Association Udhampur today observed pen down strike against uncalled for behaviour of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal and Assistant Labour Commissioner Sanchi Mishra.
The pen down strike was observed in compliance to the resolution passed yesterday after threadbare discussion on the behaviour of Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Labour Commissioner towards the general public as well as advocates community.
Bar Association, in a handout, said that the issue of pendency of revenue related cases in various revenue courts was brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner by some advocates but she misbehaved with them.
The Bar said that revenue courts in Udhampur are totally non-functional and hardly any case has been decided for the last about two years thereby causing injustice to common masses, who have been attending revenue courts after travelling long distance.
Due to Bar’s strike, the work in all the courts remained paralyzed during the day today. Even the petition writers, stamp vendors and steno typists extended support to the lawyers and participated in the strike.
Addressing the striking lawyers, District Bar Association president, Pawan K Jandial and Secretary J D Slathia warned that in case functioning of the revenue courts was not restored and DDC and Assistant Labour Commissioner didn’t mend their ways they will intensify their strike.
A 10-member committee was constituted to decide the future court of action.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur refuted the allegations levelled by the District Bar Association.
