JAMMU, Feb 13: A 25-year-old man from Udhampur District was booked for allegedly committing rape with a 45-year-old woman from Punjab’s Jalandhar area in a hotel in Jammu’s Bus Stand area on the pretext of marriage.
Sandeep Singh, 25, his father, Naseeb Singh, and sister Kiran, all residents of Tikri Goal, Udhampur, have been booked in case FIR number 05/2024 Under Section 376 of the IPC registered at Police Station Bus Stand on the complaint of a woman from Jalandhar, who claimed she was raped by one of the accused in a hotel room in Jammu, a police spokesperson said.
According to him, the complainant woman and the accused knew each other as they were friends.
“The duo came in contact with each other through social media platforms in 2019 and thereafter they interacted with each other several times in Jalandhar as well as Jammu,” he said.
“While in Jalandhar, the 25-year-old man proposed the victim woman for marriage,” he said, adding, in the year 2024, woman accepted the proposal and wished to marry the man but this time the latter and his family members refused her proposal, forcing her file a complaint with SSP Jammu.
After receiving the written complaint, the SSP Jammu forwarded the same to SHO Bus Stand to verify the matter and proceed accordingly strictly in adherence with the law.
Complying with the directions of the SSP, police have registered an FIR at Bus Stand Police Station and taken up further investigation into the matter.
Neither the medical of the victim has been conducted nor have her statements been recorded Under Section 164 of the CrPC so far. Further, no arrest has been made in the case.
