Udhampur town turns filthy as Safai Karamcharis’ strike enters 11th day

UDHAMPUR, Nov 13: Continuing their indefinite protest dharna for the 11th day, the Safai Karamcharis of Municipal Committee Udhampur today threatened to further intensify their struggle if the Government does not concede their demands.
Due to the ongoing strike, there has been no garbage collection in the last ten days. No cleanliness in the streets has led to heaps of garbages, which can be seen everywhere.
Protesting under the banner of urban local body Safai Karamchari Union Udhampur and observing dharna in front of the office of Municipal Committee Udhampur, they are demanding regularization in relaxation to the new recruitment rules for the class IV jobs, including Safai Karamcharis and Drivers.
Regularization of all eligible sanitation workers who have completed their temporary services for more than 7 years, cancellation of the MPS (Pension) and adopting the old pension scheme, solving the cases which fall under SRO 43, creating new posts for Safai Karamcharis in the Municipal Council/ Committees and cancellation of the works of contractors are among other demands,
