Srinagar, May 10 : Much to the respite of the people, the major works on the Dr Ali Jan Road have been completed and the necessary works for making the road motorable are all set to be carried out soon.
In this regard, the officials of the UEED told Excelsior that they are done with the major portion of the work on the road—where the necessary works were being carried out— and the same has been handed over to the R&B.
“The work on the Dr Ali Jan Road included putting in place the sewage pipes down at least 13-19 feet which has been done and that there are now just minor works that need to be carried out and shall be done soon,” the officials said.
Earlier, the work of laying the sewage pipes on the road was expected to be completed by February end, however, due to delay, the work could not be completed in time even as the residents were demanding the early completion of the same.
The officials said that concerning the overall works of laying the sewage, almost 90 per cent of works have been carried out while the necessary connections that are to be made are lying pending due to certain bottlenecks.
“We have almost completed it but due to the non-completion of in-fall and outfall stations by the NBCC, the connections have not been made, while as the road is being restored by the R&B department which has been paid the necessary amount of nearly Rupees 43 lakh,” the officials said.
About carrying out the necessary connections to make the sewage system functional, the major bottleneck is turning out to be the grid lane which goes from Dr Ali Jan Road towards Wanganpora.
There, the officials said that the Power Development Department was creating issues and was not allowing the laying of the rising main from the sump at Dr Ali Jan road towards Wanganpora.
“On the grid lane, there is a need for laying the rising main which will go from sump on the Dr Ali Jan Road to Wanganpora through the rising main. There are towers of the grid station there and they are creating issues for the last 6 months,” officials said, adding if the PDD allows the laying of the same; the entire project will be completed within one month.
Concerning the issue, the officials said that the Divisional Commissioner, as well as the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar has issued the necessary directions. “However, we have not heard anything from them yet; the ball is in the court of the PDD authorities.”
