JAMMU, Nov 29: Valedictory function of the twenty one day UGC HRDC Refresher Course on Women and Child Development (Interdisciplinary Course) was held in the Department of Home Science today.
Prof Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu was the chief guest while Sanjeev Mahajan, Controller of Examination (JU), guest of honour.
Sanjeev Mahajan, while expressing his views said that not just research but a holistic approach to teaching, with a focus on learning new skills, participating in training programs etc shall keep them updated with the newer trends in the field.
Earlier, Prof. JPS Joorel, Director, HRDC, University of Jammu welcomed the guests and encouraged the participants to focus more on research based activities, as research is an important component of the API scores that are required to be fulfilled for promotions to next grade. He emphasized on the area specific researches by the faculty members posted in the far flung areas of the State, since they are aware of the local problems.
Prof Neeru Sharma presented the report of the Refresher Course. She informed the house that the Refresher Course commenced on Nov 18, 2017 with 46 participants who were College and University teachers, from Bihar, UP, Maharashtra, Punjab, besides J&K state. They belonged to the disciplines of Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Chemistry, Home Science, Food Technology, Life Long Learning, English, Maths, History, Political Science, Computer Science, Botany, Physics etc. During these 21 days all the participants presented power point presentations on various issues related to women and child development.
Prof Gurpreet Bal, HoD Sociology, GNDU, Amritsar, deliberated on Feminist Methodologies and women in diaspora, and Dr Jagganath Pati, Joint Director, CARA, Ministry of Women and Child Development deliberated on child protection and adoption issues.
Some other speakers included, Dr GR Ghani, Pardeep Dutta from Times Now, Dr Rajan Salia, Dr Manu Arora, Madan Gopal Sharma, Supriya Kohli from SWD, Dr Harjeet Rai, Divisional nodal officer NHM, Dr Dinesh Kumar HoD Community Health, Dr Gitanjali Gupta from SMVD Narayana Hospital, Javed Rahi from Tribal Research Foundation, Dr Jyoti Sharma, Dy Director Planning and Development and Prof Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs, Cluster University of Jammu.
