UIET row: ABVP asks students to boycott JU Convocation

JAMMU, Feb 24: Reiterating their resolve to further intensify the ongoing agitation for restoration of University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) to Jammu University, ABVP and UIET students have call for boycott of the scheduled JU Convocation on March 4, wherein Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will be the chief guest.
“We appeals the students who are going to take their degree in that ceremony to boycott this as a protest in support of the families and the students of UIET so that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is also going to be present in the ceremony, may come to know about the students unity for protection of the autonomy of Jammu University,” said ABVP State Secretary Deepak Gupta while addressing a press conference alongwith UIET students Aryan Khajuria and Pranav, here today.
He announced that the ABVP would fight this agitation from Campus to roads if the Government does not revert back the Cabinet order of taking UIET away from JU. “If the situation demands, we are ready to gherao the ministers in their homes and restrict their movement till the demand is redressed,” he warned.
Deepak said that the UIET Agitation has shown that the general students were ready to take this agitation to any level for getting back the UIET as a constituent college of Jammu University again.
Highlighting various activities, which were conducted so far to reach the maximum students of the State highlighting discrimination with Jammu University and students of UIET, he said that more than 30000; students across the State have extended their support to the ongoing agitation by way of putting up their signature to stand shoulder to shoulder with the students of UIET. He said that more than 18 social, non- social, political associations and forums have supported this agitation.
Adding further, he said that such an attack on autonomy of Jammu University has not been seen in the past and that was the reason that all the associations of Jammu are fighting this agitation all together for the sake of protecting the autonomy of JU.
