LONDON, Jan 1 (UNI) The United Kingdom will take the lead of NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) from Germany on Monday.
London will deploy thousands of troops on standby and increase its defense commitments as part of the mission amid NATO’s 75th anniversary. Being the highest-readiness element of NATO’s broader Response Force, the VJTF is expected to boost its land forces to almost 6,000 troops in 2024.
The VJTF was established in 2014 in response to Crimea’s reunification with Russia and crises in the Middle East. The task force aims to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank and increase the effectiveness of the alliance’s response to threats posed by an enemy. (UNI)
