UKG student killed, infant among ten injured in road accidents

JAMMU, Oct 15: An Upper KG student was killed, while ten others including a two-months-old baby received injuries, when the vehicles they were traveling in skidded off the road and plummeted into deep gorge in the mountainous belt of Ramban and Doda districts today.
As per reports, a minor student was killed and six others including two teachers were injured when the Maruti van bearing registration number JK19-2796 they were traveling in from village Khari to Skytech Private School, Makarkote plunged into a deep gorge at Nachlana-Khari link road in the Ramban district this morning.
After getting information, police team from Banihal Police Station led by SHO Sajad Haider, SDPO Banihal Rafiq Choudhary and SSP Ramban Javed Iqbal Mattoo, locals and the personnel of Rashtriya Rifles Battalion based at Nachlana rushed to the spot and started rescue operation.
All the injured were rushed to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal, where doctors pronounced a UKG student namely Mudasir Sharief (9), son of Mohammad Sharief, a resident of Khari Seran as brought dead, while the others were referred to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, where their condition was stated to be out of danger, when reports last came in.
The injured have been identified as Adnan Khalid (10), son of Khali Humid, Zahid (7), son of Khursheed Ahmed, Umeed (9), son of Nazir Ahmad, Abu Mohsin (7), son of Mohammad Yousaf, Umed-ul-Rehman (22), son of Nazir Ahmed and Nawaz Ahmed (24), son of Mohammad Ramzan, all residents of Khari Seran.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Banihal police station and manhunt has been launched to nab the driver of the vehicle, who managed to escape from the spot.
Meanwhile, four persons including a 2-months-old baby got injured, when the mini-bus they were traveling in fell into a gorge in Bhagwa area of district Doda this afternoon.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK08-8075 was on its way to village Bhagwa from Doda, when the driver lost control over the steering and the vehicle plunged into gorge near village Bhagwa, causing injuries to four occupants, including a two-months-old baby. The accident took place due to negligent driving.
On getting information, police and locals rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment, when reports last poured in.
The injured have been identified as Arshad Qasim (32), Shazia Begum (28) and Sarswati Devi (22). The identity of two-months-old baby was not ascertained when reports were compiled.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Police Post Bhagwa and investigation started.
