U’khand Tourism signs MoU with NIWS to promote water sports

JAMMU, Nov 8: For the promotion of water sports, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board and National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS), here today.
The MoU was signed with a special focus on water sports, aiming to generate ample employment opportunities for local youth.
Sachin Kurve, Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board and Rahul Singh, the Director of NIWS, signed the MoU in the presence of Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “Uttarakhand, blessed with scenic rivers and water bodies, holds great potential for water sports tourism. Through this MoU, Uttarakhand’s youth will receive professional training in various water sports, thus promoting water sports tourism and creating ample employment opportunities.”
“This collaboration will lead to enhanced knowledge exchange, skill development, and awareness programs. It will also strengthen the standards and safety measures related to water sports and tourism in Uttarakhand, establishing it as a promising destination for adventure tourism. The joint cooperation between Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board and NIWS will lay a solid foundation for the future development of water sports tourism, bringing significant opportunities for both sectors,” he added.
After signing the MoU, NIWS will provide training in various water sports activities to local youth in Uttarakhand.
The training programs will include water sports, boat operations, lifeguard skills, and all necessary managerial skills such as rescue and relief.
The National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS) was established in July 1990 by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, in Goa.
NIWS is the first institute in the country exclusively dedicated to water sports training. Its objective is to train professionals and prepare safety norms, regulations, standards, and dissemination strategies for water sports activities in India.
