This has reference to the news item ‘Govt puts off ULB elections indefinitely, no deadline’ DE May 28.
It is quite dismaying to note that the Government has indefinitely put off the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) elections in the State. Whatever may be reasons for taking the decision, one is sure that it may hit the development of urban areas in the State which are witnessing rapid expansion-both vertical and horizontal. As a result, many problem have cropped up which need to the attention of the corporators as they remain well aware of the problems of their respective areas. By not electing them for the last three years, these Urban, Local Bodies may lose relevance.
Not holding elections during this period reflects the Government’s inability to devolve powers to the lower rung of governance.
The delay-dallying attitude would only create lot of problems for the people living in urban areas.
