JAMMU, Sept 14: UltraTech Cement established its first Center of Excellence (CoE) for Advanced Building Materials and Sustainable Development in the region of Jammu and Kashmir and seventh such center across Northern India at the MIET, Kot Bhalwal campus. The center was inaugurated by Mukesh Jha, Regional Head Technical, UltraTech Cement Ltd. and Prof. Ankur Gupta, Director, MIET. Subsequently, a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MIET and UltraTech Cement was signed encompassing broad areas of collaboration.
Mukesh Jha said that UltraTech CoE at MIET will showcase the latest technologies and trends in construction management while offering valuable opportunities to students, engineers, architects, and builders in the region to stay updated. He further emphasized that the CoE will provide essential training programs in emerging domains tailored for local masons, contractors and students, fulfilling a major gap in the field and helping to improve the overall quality of construction. The Center of Excellence will also display a diverse range of models using Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC), advanced concrete and cement products, tiling products, chemical water-proofing solutions, new construction materials, along with their literature and technical know-how.
Prof. Ankur Gupta emphasized the importance of organizing technical seminars, workshops, conferences, and training programs under the CoE as there is a need to support the civil engineering community in the region with the right tools, techniques and practices leading to overall improvement in the standards of civil work while ensuring sustainability, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). He further informed the audience that MIET has established a student chapter of the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) and actively encourages both students and faculty members to engage in research in these emerging fields.
