JAMMU, Sept 8: Even as three militants, trapped at Pangai in Upper Shahdara Sharief area of Thanna Mandi in Rajouri district, remained untraced and were reported to have slipped away to Chamrerh forests on the border of Rajouri-Poonch districts, reports said movement of some ultras has also been observed in Krishna Ghati sector of Mendhar tehsil in Poonch district.
Official sources said police and security forces continued massive searches for a group of three militants at Pangai and Upper Pangai in Upper Shahdara Sharief area of Thanna Mandi in Rajouri district for past three days. However, due to heavy rains, the militants reportedly managed to trek through the forests to reach Chamrerh forests on Rajouri-Poonch border.
The militants reportedly belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and one or two of them were foreign mercenaries.
Sources said a bigger operation has been planned for Chamrerh forests by police and security forces. Aware of the fact that security forces were following them, the militants might shift their hideouts taking advantage of hostile weather conditions all across the region, prevailing at present.
Sources said movement of the militants has also been observed in Krishna Ghati sector of Mendhar tehsil in Poonch district during past couple of days and a possibility of infiltration attempt can’t be ruled out.
However, there was no official confirmation of any infiltration attempt on the Line of Control (LoC) but some of the people have told police and security forces that they had observed movement of the militants, sources said, adding that the security personnel were conducting searches on the LoC to ensure that the militants, if any, didn’t manage to enter further inside the Indian territory.
The militants have made a series of infiltration attempts on the LoC but Army has successfully foiled them.
Meanwhile, Army and police also continued searches in parts of Nowshera sector in Rajouri district.
Searches in Rajouri were going on for past about one week including villages Dhanaka, Bhawani and Lamberhi, where the people have reported movement of the militants. However, there had been no direct contact between security forces and militants, sources said, adding that searches were being conducted in the routes leading to forest areas from Dhanaka, Bhawani and Lamberhi.
Security forces and police have also sought cooperation of the local people in tracing out the militants if at all they had managed to infiltrate.
