UN representative supports Sri Lankan President in fight against poverty

COLOMBO, Oct 5 : United Nations (UN) resident coordinator in Sri Lanka, Marc-Andre Franche, met Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat and assured support for the island nation’s IMF program and poverty eradication efforts, media reports said.

The UN Resident Coordinator greeted Sri Lankan President Dissanayake with the greetings of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the Daily News reported.

Marc-Andre Franche praised the president’s manifesto and ethical political campaign, while the resident coordinator acknowledged high public expectations.

According to reports, the coordinator praised Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s anti-corruption initiative, stating it offers hope for a new start, and assured UN technical and financial support for these efforts.

Furthermore, the unique initiative for national peace among communities was highly praised, with the UN acknowledging the president’s dedication to fostering trust among diverse groups, reports said.

The UN pledged its full backing for this initiative to promote lasting peace in the country.
