Unemployed dental surgeons stage protest outside Dental College

Srinagar, Aug 2: The unemployed dental surgeons today staged a protest here outside the Government Dental College (GDC) against the Government for not advertising a single post for them in the last more than 12 years.
The protesting doctors said that more than 7000 dental doctors are unemployed across the Union Territory and more than 700 doctors have crossed the age limit without facing the JKPSC exam even once.
It is to be noted here that the indefinite strike of the unemployed dental surgeons across the UT has now completed 43 days; however, there has not been any response from the administration so far.
The unemployed dental surgeons said that it is very unfortunate that no one from the administration came to see the ground reality and did not bother to get to know the real situation from them.
They said that it is the administration’s inaction and indifference that has brought them out on roads to protest the injustice.
“The administration is humiliating the dental surgeons for the last 13 years and we continue to be humiliated to date; we ask the LG Manoj Sinha to kindly listen to us and address our issues without any further delay,” the protesting dental surgeons said.
Dr Irtika Riyaz, one of the protestors said that they do not need the financial assistance as has been offered by the Government, “but a proper job; because for the financial assistance, we can go to a bank,” she said.
“We do not need the financial assistance as the Government is offering; we need the Government to advertise the posts as it is ironical that we are still dependent on families with regard to the finances,” she said.
She said that they had pinned hopes with the Government, “but nothing on the ground is happening,” she said, adding “If they are not going to provide the jobs, the Government should also close down the dental colleges.”
