Jammu, Feb 8:Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad today received the UNICEF award in recognition of the landmark achievement of India completing two years with no newly reported cases of polio.
Ms Anuradha Gupta, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was also present on the occasion.
The award, consisting of a memento, was presented to Mr Azad jointly by Ms Gita Rao Gupta, Executive Director, UNICEF, Ms Elen Evans, Deputy CEO of GAVI Alliance (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization), an organization specializing in creating awareness about vaccination and Ms Lis Mason, Director, WHO.
The award and memento were handed over to the Minister on the second day’s proceedings of the ‘Call for Action Summit’ being held at Mammallapuram, about 60 km from Chennai.
