JAMMU, Apr 17: Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar today launched “Kissan Rath App” to facilitate on-board logistical service providers to extend transportation facilities for movement of agriculture and horticulture products from farms to regulated markets, farmers producers organisation centres, warehouses, railway stations, airports, processing units and wholesale and retail markets across the country.
The function which was held at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi was attended by senior functionaries of Union and State Governments.
From Jammu and Kashmir, Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Department Navin K. Choudhary participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
Navin Choudhary explained that this App will lead to over 05 lakh truck owners and more than 20,000 tractors being available for transportation through Custom Hiring Centers (CHC). He said that the app will result in the availability of timely transportation services at competitive rates to farmers and traders, and will also result in a substantial reduction of food wastage. This will also strengthen Agriculture Supply Chain Management, he said.
The Principal Secretary asked all officers of Agriculture Production and allied departments to popularise and encourage farmers to download this App for their benefit. The App will also benefit transporters as empty trucks after delivering manufactured products could find business by way of transporting agriculture goods on return journey. It will also help farmers to negotiate transportation cost with registered transport owners through this App, he said.
