Union Joint Secy reviews water conservation measures in Jammu

JAMMU, Dec 21: Union Joint Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, Kavita Garg, who is also the Prabhari Officer for Jammu district, reviewed implementation of works being executed under Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain-2023 campaign and other related initiatives being taken in the district in a meeting held today.
The objective of the meeting was to review the campaign towards promotion of water conservation and rainwater harvesting efforts in the district. The progress of Jal Jeevan Mission was also reviewed.
Kavita Garg took stock of the status of tenders, installation of pipe networks, construction of overhead tanks, slow and rapid sand filtration plants and other components of the Jal Jeevan Mission. She also assessed the coverage of full household tap connections (FHTCs) and financial progress of the scheme in the district.
She asked the officials of various departments about the steps being taken for rainwater harvesting in Government buildings, schools and other institutions. She also enquired about the status of Amrit Sarovar targets, a programme to create water bodies in rural areas, and the functioning of the existing structures.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh, Assistant Commissioner Development, Preeti Sharma and other officers from Forest Department, Jal Shakti Department, Integrated Watershed Management Programme, Agriculture Department, Soil and Water Conservation Department and others.
The officers shared the status of their works being undertaken for water conservation and rainwater harvesting. The Soil and Water Conservation Department also informed about the status of ponds rejuvenation, protection, construction of check dams and plantation efforts being done by them. Similar reports were also shared by the Forest Department.
The Prabhari Officer appreciated the efforts of the district administration and the concerned departments for their work towards water conservation and management. She also gave directions and suggestions for further improvement and timely completion of the projects.
