SRINAGAR, Sept 14: Mansukh L. Mandaviya, Union MoS Road Transport and Highways, Shipping, Chemicals and Fertilizers, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Governor and Mandaviya discussed various ongoing as well as the proposed highways projects in J&K, and initiatives introduced by the Ministry to improve the road transport fleet with latest technological innovations including GPS for the safety and security of the passengers.
Governor and Mandaviya discussed certain issues relating to the adequate and timely supply of fertilizers to the farmers.
Governor highlighted the vital importance of having robust road connectivity in J&K which has difficult terrain over a large portion of its total area. He observed that improvement in road network would provide required impetus to tourism sector with development of various potential tourist spots in the State and provide easy and all-weather accessibility to its remote areas.
Haji Anayat Ali, Chairman, Legislative Council also met Governor and informed him about several educational and road connectivity problems faced by the people of Kargil and about other varied issues of public importance.
Governor assured Ali due consideration of all the issues projected by him and urged him to continue his sustained endeavours for promoting public welfare.
G.H. Mir, former Minister also met Governor and discussions about the challenges being faced in the arena of development and the steps required for creating conditions which can lead to sustained peace and normalcy in the State.
Governor and Mir discussed the crucial importance of establishing institutions of local self government for empowering people and ensuring overall development of villages and towns.
Meanwhile a delegation of fruit growers from Village Goom, district Baramulla, met Governor and apprised him about damage caused to their fruit crops due to yesterday’s hail storm and requested him to direct concerned authorities to give them adequate compensation for their losses.
Raj Bhavan Spokesperson informed that Governor after listening to the delegation, spoke to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and directed him to carry out immediate assessment of the damages to the fruit crops and expedite cases for due compensation to the fruit growers.
Governor assured the delegation that he will direct the concerned authorities to do the needful.
Priya Saumya, Executive Director Usha Social Services, a department of Usha International Limited, accompanied by Indu Gautam, Senior Manager, Usha Social Services also met Governor.
Saumya apprised Governor about the Usha Silai School Program, a pan India community based rural initiative of Usha International Ltd., aimed at empowering women from marginalized sections of the communities in the rural areas of India. She informed that a 10 days training programme has been launched by Usha Social Services in collaboration with Kashmir University where 23 women will be given training regarding various aspects of sewing.
Governor appreciated efforts of the Usha International Limited in helping women from rural areas become financially independent through their Silai Programme and wished them success in their endeavours.
