KOLKATA, Jan 11 : Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Saturday unveiled India’s first state-of-the-art gallery on climate change ” On the Edge” at the picturesque Science City at the EM Bypass and urged all to cooperate to combat global warming or climate change.
” Climate change is a very crucial issue around the world and the gallery of its kind needs to be replicated in all regions, including virtual displays, to create awareness of its impact,” said the visiting Union minister.
Spreading on 10,000-plus sq ft and two storeys, the modern-looking gallery, titled ‘On the Edge?’, reflects cutting-edge technology to highlight crucial global issues and local weather change to spread awareness about the issue considered most important by the Minister.
He said the completion of the gallery has taken over two years and all the information was gathered from experts and specialized sources, particularly Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, NASA and likewise.
The exhibition is divided into three sections – ‘Impact of Climate Change, Why is the Climate Changing?’, ‘Mitigation’ and ‘Adaptation’ -and each section touches on key aspects of the historical, present and future climate crisis. The displays also harp on various evidences, insights, and actionable solutions to educate visitors.
