Union Minister, Priya Sethi inaugurate National Convention of ABSMS

JAMMU, June 13: To celebrate 15th foundation day, Akhil Bhartiya Safai Mazdoor Sangh organised National Convention of delegates in General Zorawar Singh Stadium, University of Jammu, here today.
Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gujjar was chief guest on the occasion. Minister of State for Education, Information and Culture Priya Sethi was guest of honour.
Member Parliament Arjun Ram Meghwal, MLA, Jammu West Sat Sharma were special invitees for the convention.
National President, Akhil Bhartiya Safai Mazdoor Sangh (ABSMS) Prem Kumar Daggar, President J&K Unit Dev Anand Gill spoke on the occasion and presented demands of the Sangh.
Addressing the convention, Krishan Pal Gujjar said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pinned cleanliness and proper sanitation as priority at national level and special campaigns have been organised at national and State levels to generate awareness among the masses for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.
He said the Central Government is alive to the problems faced by sanitation workers and all out efforts are being made to address the issues raised by various bodies of the workers. He assured the Sangh that the demands would be addressed in a time bound manner.
He said in order to provide insurance cover and pension to common people the Prime Minister has launched innovative social security schemes namely Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojna. After success of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna these schemes aim to create a universal social security system for all which would ensure health and accident cover and pension to all, he added.
Underlining commitment of the Government towards down trodden sections of the society, Priya Sethi said focused attention is being paid to address the issues related to marginalised sections of the society and the Social Welfare Department ensures that schemes related to welfare and rehabilitation of poor and oppressed people are addressed.
She said contribution of sanitation workers towards cleaner cities and towns is well recognised and the Government would ensure that genuine issues raised by the Mazdoor Sangh for the welfare of workers would be addressed on priority.
She said the Government is extending soft loans, subsidies to down trodden and marginalised sections of the society in order to enable them to start their own ventures.
President of the ABSNMS Prem Kumar Dagra, President J&K unit Dev Anand Gill presented the charter of demands and highlighted the issues being faced by sanitation workers at National and State level.
